Cryotherapy/Ice
The application of ice, or cryotherapy which the doctor has ordered in the management of your condition or injury has also been ordered for your home care regimen. The best long-term outcomes arise from the transition of interventions in the clinic to self-care and wellness culture modeling which finds our patients growing as stewards of their own bodies and health.
The cryotherapy ingredient in your care formula is very valuable as we grow you from simply getting adjusted to STAYING ADJUSTED. Your icepack does best when it is kept on the door of your freezer- the more folded or wrinkled it gets, the more likely it develops leaks. Kept in the back of the freezer not only leads to a misshapen pack but also one that becomes too hard. A pliable yet firmly cold pack which has all of the frost and moisture wiped away is ready for service. Using a wrap or a strap such as a folded towel or sheet allows you to achieve a focused application of the therapy directly to the target tissue as was identified for you by the doctor. If you have any questions or would like further clarity, please ask.
Applying the therapy in the same manner, as closely as possible, as was performed in the clinic requires deliberateness. Be sure to get good, focused contact and don’t leave it on too long. Usually the end of the day, after work or before bedtime becomes the preferred timing of the treatment- do not fall asleep on the icepack. These instructions lack many specifics because our care is very personalized and the specifics change from person to person. You do not have to wait until your next visit to get clarification, we answer emails, text messages and phone calls as soon as possible.
We are excited by the prospect of partnering with you in your strength, health, wellness and recovery journey! These instructions are meant solely for the person they were prescribed for.
